Version 1.016

Dear Pilots,

We are proud to announce the release of the 1.016 Update for Rise of Flight. It is an important and interesting update which our team has worked on throughout the autumn season. As always, one of the main goals of our work was to increase your sense of immersion, sense of flight and level of fun. We think version 1.016 will do just that. However, the wide variety of PCs used by ROF flyers has created many difficulties in our work. As you can see, ROF is not just a game with beautiful graphics and airplanes; it's a complex set of calculations that takes place at speeds of millions of operations per second. Of course, such calculations require a powerful PC to operate properly. We understand that not all of you have the means to buy a powerful PC, but we can’t let that stop us from researching new features and graphical enhancements for our engine. We now find that there are two main camps in the ROF community, those who possess powerful, modern PCs, and those who still cannot afford one or chose not to upgrade. As a result, you often ask us to make hard choices between performance and features. We simply cannot satisfy both camps at once. In deference to those who are ready to support new features, we have added several new technologies to this version that we think you will like. Also, we did not forget about the rest of our community and we made sure that all these new technologies and features can be turned off if you cannot use them. Our highly appreciated testers tell us that if you leave your settings the same as they were in version 1.015, than you should get basically the same performance. But please do not scold us if you cannot resist and turn on something new on your less powerful PC, it certainly will increase pressure on your system and reduce your performance.

In this update, you will find a new "Maximum" value for Shaders and Reflection. The value of "High" will be equal to the load and appearance of version 1.015. We have also increased the quality of the Shadows, but did not add a new item in the settings. Instead, the value of "Medium" will be equal to "High" in the previous version and "High" will now be higher in shadow quality, but will require additional PC resources. We have also added an 8x Anti-Aliasing option to further help with jaggies. This is a very resource-intensive option and we kindly ask you to be careful with it. There is also a new option called Lights, which determines how many dynamic sources you can see at once. If during flight this value is exceeded, then the system will automatically shut down the weakest or the most distant source of light. Finally, we have added a new Post-Effect called High Contrast which will appeal to those who like a picture with a lot of colors and light.

In the Camera settings tab, you will find a new item "Smoothing the View from the Cockpit." This is an important new option, which affects how viewing works using a mouse or a TrackIR. For TrackIR owners, we recommend you reset the value of your profile in the TrackIR software to "Default" and put maximum smoothing 10 in the settings of ROF menu. Then try it and make corrections from there in the TrackIR software. This feature should also help with conflicts between the TrackIR and MSFFB2 joystick.

And of course, you will now able purchase the HP O/400 in our store and fly against it as A.I. or add it to your custom missions. (http://riseofflight.com/en/store/planes ... Page_0-400). The HP O/400 was a great British bomber of the First World War and it adds a whole new dimension to ROF. Its appearance is of great importance for future development and with its release, we complete the preparation for the importing of more multi-seat and multi-engine aircraft into ROF. As previously announced, we are preparing a series of such aircraft for ROF such as the Gotha, DFWC.V and Breguet 14 and others. It’s important to mention that the HP O/400 is a complex aircraft with many calculations inside and outside of the model itself; therefore you will need a sufficiently powerful PC to simultaneously calculate the presence of large numbers of such aircraft in the sky at once. In multiplayer, the roles of the pilot and the gunners are performed by different people. If you buy this aircraft, you will be able to pilot it in the multiplayer and use the bombsight, while other participants will be able to take defensive gunner positions. We have also given you the ability to be a gunner, even if you have not purchased this aircraft yet. The interface of its different systems is fairly simple and we think you will understand them without too much trouble.

And we give special thanks to all the artists who have created over 400 new skins for aircrafts that have been included in the "ROF skin packs № 4”!

This is a short summary of the more than 40 new items and enhancements in version 1.016. This update challenged us like never before and it was a very difficult thing to build. There is no doubt you will find some technical issues with this build and as always we will be watching for what you may encounter. Please, please, please exercise patience and take your time to test the various new graphical enhancements and features of the bombers thoroughly. Especially the new key commands to operate the bomber and gunner positions. As usual, a list of all changes and improvements in more detail will be posted in the forum at time of release.

We had also hoped to show you a video of how to use the bombsight before release, but our busy development schedule prevented us from doing that. We apologize for not providing that.

Our team will continue our work to introduce version 1.017 for ROF ASAP. The main direction of the next version will be the new Career mode and future plans include activities to involve the community more in the creative process, which is something we have long wanted to do.

We wish you a good flight and happy hunting!
